The Public Works Committee of the City Council on Monday,
October 15th, 2007, unanimously voted to not recommend
that the Roundabout proceed to City Council at this
time. Instead, the Chair of the Committee, Debbie Vancil,
directed that the Public Works Department meet with
the owners of the properties surrounding the intersection
to have a detailed discussion of the basis for a roundabout
and any alternatives.
THE
CITY COUNCIL PUBLIC HEARING FOR OCTOBER 24TH IS NOW
CANCELLED BUT MAY BE RESCHEDULED IN THE FUTURE.

-
The intersection is too small for a roundabout;
-
There is no present or future problem that a roundabout will
solve there;
-
A roundabout in close proximity (about 7 feet) to the existing
building to the southwest is dangerous;
-
The rural character of the intersection will be destroyed;
-
There are other ways to deal with traffic there;
-
The proposed roundabout will cause the center of the intersection
to shift to the west, requiring the taking of large amounts
of property out of the adjoining properties when it should be
taken out of the only corner which is undeveloped;
-
To the extent a roundabout is to be used, I believe an EIS must
be required for the roundabout as it essentially destroys an
historical property, the Wyatt House;
-
Elderly people use the intersection and the speed of cars going
around the roundabout presents a dangerous condition and it
will be just a matter of time before death or serious injury
occurs.
-
The true limiting factor in the Madison corridor is the existing
roundabout at High School Rd.
